With graduation season upon us, we at PeerForward want to take the time to celebrate some of our amazing Alumni for their postsecondary education accomplishments.

PeerForward Alumni Music Miranda gives everything she does her all; her education is no exception! This spring, she graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film and television. We are so proud to see her achieve this major milestone. Last summer, she acted as one of our Marketing Interns for the Workshop season. She used her film and television expertise to create high quality, high performing content for our socials. The year before she was a member of the Alumni Support Team, working to inspire the next generation of Peer Leaders. Music continues to inspire us year after year, always making efforts to better herself and others. We reached out to learn more about her college experience and what it means to her to earn this degree:
What does it mean to you to earn this degree/certification?
Earning this degree means the world to me. Being interested in film since elementary school and seeing the process is so beautiful. Film is a reflection of life. In my eyes, it is the best art medium as it brings so many people together. I want to be that person. This degree proves to me that my hard work, dedication, and my craft exceed my expectations. I hope to continue to surprise myself!

What role did PeerForward play in seeing you through your postsecondary education journey?
As a PeerForward Alumni, applying to colleges was always something I was confident in doing because of the knowledge PeerForward provided. They encouraged me to apply to the school I wanted, which was an art school, while everyone else applied to science or technology schools. PeerFoward gave me the confidence to submit my application even if I was the only student wanting to go to SCAD from my high school.
How did your friends/peers influence, inspire, or motivate you to achieve your educational goals? How did you do the same for others?
My friends are all artists. They dance, draw, sing, act, direct and so much more. Seeing them create makes me want to create too. This world is full of talented people and I’m so glad to be in the same lifetime as them. I do the same for others where I hope what I create inspires the next person.
What was the biggest obstacle to your postsecondary education and how did you overcome it?

The biggest obstacle was the culture switch. Going from PG County Maryland to Savannah Georgia was a big shift. I learned a lot about myself. I learned that even when people doubt me, my voice and God’s are the only ones that matter. I work very hard and sometimes I need to work harder just to be recognized. I overcame this by creating Nectar Dance Team. A dance family where we perform for our culture, family, and friends. This is my safe place. It’s a safe place for others as well.
Why do you choose to serve as a PeerForward Alumni?
Being an Alumni is beautiful. PeerForward has helped me grow into the person I am. Unlocking new communication, organizational, and business skills. They helped me and encouraged me to chase my dreams. I hope to do the same for others!
