Peer Leaders at Lake Marion High School in Santee, South Carolina are gearing up their peers for postsecondary success with an extra, stylish flair. Before parting for holiday break, this PeerForward team hosted “Fashion Forward,” a fashion and talent show where students showcased professional wear for the careers they aspire to and modeled college gear for the colleges they aim to attend. Students also modeled appropriate attire to wear for work and college interviews, preparing their peers to make great first impressions in any professional setting.

With tickets ranging from $2-$3 per student, the team raised an estimated $500 from ticket sales at this event alone. The money raised will go toward supplies to host future college, career, and postsecondary planning events at the high school.

At the PeerForward summer workshop, Peer Leaders learn to “show, not tell” and provide concrete examples when writing their personal statement for college; the Lake Marion HS Peer Leaders have done a great job of carrying that motto into their college-going campaigns by showing, not just telling peers their college and career options with their “Fashion Forward” event. We can’t wait to see what this team shows us next!
