On April 6, 2019, our partners at Venture Philanthropy Partners celebrated their 19-year legacy of bringing meaningful philanthropic investment and change to the Greater Washington region at their All-Stars Night. Our own “all-star” Peer Leader, August Taylor from Suitland High School in Md., was chosen as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, where she opened the night by sharing her own inspiring journey to higher education.

PeerForward Coach, Cornelius Williams, and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Jenadra Harvey, attended the event in support of August Taylor and in celebration of VPP’s accomplishments.

“The event was filled with so much joy and laughter as one of our very own Peer Leaders, August, emceed with such grace and poise,” Jenadra said. “It was amazing to see one of our students put smiles on the faces of all of the people in attendance. August wholeheartedly embodies the work that we do here.”

Cornelius agreed, adding, “I was ecstatic to see that a Peer Leader of August’s stature had the opportunity to showcase her true leadership skills on that platform. I was filled with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and happiness that she was able to share her story and talk about the impact of PeerForward had on her journey as a leader.”

Not only has August Taylor shown exceptional leadership throughout her role as a Peer Leader and MC of this event, she has also served as her school’s Senior Class President, is heavily involved in theater and the performing arts, and studied Chinese during her high school years. She now plans to study film at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Ga. this upcoming fall.

PeerForward can’t wait to see what great heights August will reach next!
