On Thursday, January 8th, our Academy of Health Science Peer Leaders were joined by representatives Bobby Duyile, Khalid Omer, and Joshua Lay from Deloitte for a Career Exploration Workshop!

The Career Exploration Workshop is just one of many provided by Deloitte Academy; Deloitte’s mentoring program. It aims to promote college and career skills, build awareness of careers in business and accounting, and explore well-being topics to help students navigate their personal, professional, and academic needs.
“It’s important to introduce professional services to high school students, especially considering some may not have people who work in professional services in their family. I know I come from a family where not many people work in professional services, so a career in public accounting was very taboo,” said Joshua Lay, one of the Deloitte presenters.

During a Q&A session, students asked questions right up until class dismissal. They continued on to their next class, still buzzing with excitement as they walked out the door. To Joshua Lay, the benefits of having access to career professionals cannot be understated:
“I personally wish I had access to these career readiness resources when I was their age. Hearing from people who look like me, or have similar backgrounds, and having them introduce these professional topics early on would have been very impactful. Being able to be that person for these students, showing them that this is a route they can go, is very rewarding.”

Thank you to Bobby Duyile, Khalid Omer, and Joshua Lay for presenting to our Academy of Health Sciences PeerForward team and sharing all that a career at Deloitte has to offer! We are always thrilled to have corporate volunteers get involved and witness the benefits of giving back with PeerForward. Think your company is a good fit to be a PeerForward corporate partner? We’d love to hear from you!
