PeerForward congratulates and thanks President Obama for signing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

We also thank the Congress for providing ESSA language requiring, where the data is available, each state to report the public and private post-secondary enrollment rates for every high school.

This clause may be slightly overlooked in all of the attention given to the new law, but it is hugely important. Having this language included in the new law signals that we have finally reached a consensus as a nation on the post-secondary purpose of the American high school. We acknowledge that high school graduation is a launchpad to post-secondary success; it is no longer the endpoint. Now millions of students, parents, and educators will be able to make important decisions informed by how well their high schools are sending students to college.

This is cause for celebration.
