We’re kicking off this week with another graduation spotlight! Today we’re celebrating Alumni Ariana De’vine Dabner, a first generation college student, for graduating with her B.S. in Accounting from Bowie State University! We reached out to learn more about her college experience and what role PeerForward played in her educational journey:

What does it mean to you to earn this degree/certification?

Ariana De’vine Dabner at her graduation.

It means the world to me. I never thought I would be able to go, even though I was good a school and always on honor roll. I knew I would have to work hard and support myself, but God blessed me through. I feel like I’m entering a new chapter of my life.

What role did PeerForward play in seeing your through your postsecondary education journey?

I joined PeerForward in high school right before the pandemic hit. I acted as the secretary of the organization! I learned so much about financial aid, scholarship opportunities and Pell grants. I was about to take that information and pay each semester off without taking much out my pockets!

How did your friends/peers influence, inspire, or motivate you to achieve your educational goals? How did you do the same for others?

The same friends I had since 6th grade are the same friends I graduated with this year! Although they went to different colleges, we related and connected on things that typically college students go through. Watching them push themselves made me push myself as well.

Some responses have been edited for length and clarity.
