Erick Adames Ramirez, 3L

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the Bronx and Miami, Erick Adames Ramirez first stepped onto Barry University’s main campus the summer before his senior year of high school. He was there for his PeerForward, then called College Summit, Workshop. That weekend in the dorms, he spent time writing his personal statement, building leadership skills, and envisioning his future as the first in his family to attend and graduate from a four-year university.

Following high school graduation, Erick attended Florida State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice. After his time at FSU came to an end, he returned to the Barry Law campus, not as a Peer Leader this time, but as a student pursuing his Juris Doctor. Now, Erick is a third year law student on track to become the first lawyer in his family. On campus, he’s active in the Black Law Students Association, NAACP, Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, and the Virgil Hawkins Bar Association. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career as a Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury Litigation Attorney at a major law firm.

You may think Erick’s days are completely full of studying, but that’s not the case! Fun fact: Erick is bilingual, has been cutting his own hair for over 10 years, and even knows how to sew. When he’s not hitting the books, he’s hitting the pavement — running over 20 5Ks, 2 10Ks, a half marathon, plus completing a Spartan Race and a HYROX race, with more events already on the calendar before his graduation!

We at PeerForward wish Erick continued success as he finishes out law school at Barry University! It is so meaningful to our organization to see our Alumni follow their dreams and forge their own paths. For our current Peer Leaders who want to become a lawyer in the future, let Erick’s story serve as inspiration. You are capable and deserving of the education you dream of!
