On Tuesday, August 19th, our Laurel High School Peer Leaders in Prince George’s County helped host a back-to-school fair where attending students could receive free school supplies, haircuts, and vaccinations in preparation for the 2025-2026 school year starting next week.
The team showed up bright and early at 4:30 a.m., hours before the start of the event, to appear on NBC4 Washington and to make

connections with different community leaders. They had the opportunity to meet Laurel City Mayor Keith R. Sydnor, interview with Council President Kyla Clark, and advocate for resources from the District One Office representatives in attendance!

Events like this back-to-school fair are so important. They setting students up for success by providing them with resources they need, but may not have access to. It goes beyond school supplies. Offering services like free haircuts is more crucial than one might believe. A boost in confidence can make all the difference. We are so proud of our Peer Leaders for the role they played in making this all happen. We can’t wait to see all that they accomplish when they head back to school next week!
